SAP WM is the classic warehouse management from SAP ECC. In S/4HANA, Stock Room Management carries on the core functions, and SAP EWM is the choice for complex warehouses.
Why now
Time is running out for SAP WM
If you use SAP WM, you have to decide with the move to S/4HANA how your warehouse continues. The options are Stock Room Management or SAP EWM.
Compatibility mode ended
The usage rights for WM in the S/4HANA compatibility pack expired on December 31, 2025.
ECC maintenance ends 2027
Standard maintenance for SAP ECC ends on December 31, 2027. Classic WM goes with it.
No further development
SAP does not develop WM and Stock Room Management any further. New functions only come in SAP EWM.

Is SAP WM still supported under S/4HANA?
Only to a limited extent. In S/4HANA, SAP WM (LE-WM) ran in compatibility mode, whose usage right ended on December 31, 2025. The core functions have been available in Stock Room Management since S/4HANA 1909. As of 10.2026, source: SAP Notes 2269324 and 2270211.
What is SAP Stock Room Management?
Stock Room Management is the continuation of the basic functions of SAP WM in S/4HANA. It is aimed at warehouses with simple, mostly manual processes. SAP does not develop it further, new functions only appear in SAP EWM.
What is missing in Stock Room Management compared to SAP WM?
Some functions of classic WM are no longer available, for example cross-docking, wave management, yard management and decentralized WM scenarios.
Does Stock Room Management cost extra?
No. It is included in the SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management license. For the extended scope of EWM Advanced, however, you need an additional EWM license.
When does SAP EWM pay off instead of Stock Room Management?
When your warehouse grows, processes become more complex or you want to automate, for example with automated warehouses or conveyor systems. EWM offers the larger scope of functions for this and is further developed by SAP.
Is SAP Logistics Management an alternative to WM?
Partly. SAP Logistics Management is a cloud solution (SaaS) for local sites and satellite warehouses with low to medium complexity and is integrated into SAP Cloud ERP Private. It fits if you are moving to the cloud and want to handle warehouse and transport together. If you run S/4HANA On-Premise or want to continue WM processes unchanged, you stay with Stock Room Management or move to EWM.
