From the WM to a Future-Proof EWM at Festool
Professional tools, professional-grade logistics
TTS Tooltechnic Systems SE & Co. KG, with its Festool brand, is one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality power tools for professional users. The group employs around 3,300 people worldwide and operates internationally.
As part of the move to SAP S/4HANA, TTS decided to fundamentally rebuild its production logistics at two sites as well, working with us as consulting and implementation partner among others.
A warehouse system at the end of its life
The existing warehouse management system (SAP WM) had aged: system support was expiring, and over the years numerous custom developments had accumulated that made operations costly and hard to maintain. For TTS it was clear that simply carrying on was no longer a viable basis for the future.
The goal was therefore: back to SAP standard. Instead of perpetuating grown special solutions, the warehouse processes were to be placed on a modern, standard-oriented foundation as part of the S/4HANA implementation: more stable, more transparent and with significantly better planning capabilities in the interplay of production (PP) and warehouse (EWM).
Greenfield instead of carrying on
Our area of responsibility was clearly defined: production logistics with SAP EWM, delivered as a greenfield implementation using one warehouse number at two production sites. Through shared standards and short communication paths, we made sure the parallel workstreams meshed cleanly.
We worked very closely with Festool's IT and business departments. The target processes were developed jointly, and IT was trained during the implementation itself so that in-house know-how was built up from the start. From day one we designed our solution as a template that can be transferred to further sites.
What the warehouse restart delivers
The migration creates the basis for stable, traceable processes in production logistics.
Unified processes make production logistics traceable across sites.
Fewer posting errors and therefore more reliable stock in day-to-day operations.
More reliable cross-departmental statements based on unified data.
The close interplay of PP and EWM noticeably improves planning.
Standard-oriented, free of burdensome custom developments and ready for future requirements.
The success rests on close collaboration, deep SAP and process expertise and a long-standing, trusting partnership: familiar processes and company specifics could be taken into account deliberately from the outset.
The next step is already set: we are continuing the collaboration directly with the first international rollout in the Czech Republic, taking the template-based EWM solution into the international landscape.
