DB Schenker is one of the world’s leading logistics services companies. With sales of 17.7 billion euros in 2020, more than 2,100 locations worldwide and over 74,000 employees, DB Schenker is an indispensable global player in industry and commerce. In addition to land, air and sea freight transport, DB Schenker also offers solutions in contract logistics and supply chain management. Around 24,500 employees work in 750 locations worldwide on more than 8.8 million square meters of warehouse space.
Initial situation and project aim:
Until now, the warehouse employees at DB Schenker worked with the mobile dialogs of SAP EWM RF or with ITSmobile. These dialogs are not responsive, i.e. they have a fixed height and width, and therefore have to be adapted for each new end device. In addition, the usability of these dialogs can no longer keep up with modern applications. DB Schenker was looking for a solution for mobile warehouse dialogs that offered a responsive design and better usability. Another condition was to preserve the logic of the existing dialogs. In addition, emphasis was placed on seamless integration of the application into the existing SAP Fiori Launchpad, so that users do not have to switch between multiple solutions.
What have we achieved?
By using the UI5 Converters at DB Schenker, the existing SAP EWM RF screens can be automatically converted into a responsive UI5 app with one click. In doing so, the logic of the SAP EWM RF is preserved and the generated application in standard SAP Fiori can be seamlessly integrated into the SAP Fiori Launchpad. In addition, the UI5 Converter provides an interface that enables DB Schenker to call individual EWM RF transactions directly, for example from the SAP Fiori Launchpad.
The advantages of this solution are that a user-friendly application is generated without additional development effort, which offers high usability on a wide range of end devices. Even if the hardware is changed at a later date, no adaptation of the mobile warehouse dialogs is necessary. In addition, the generated SAPUI5 app can easily be adapted to include components that SAP EWM-RF does not offer, such as the display of product photos or camera functionality. And the seamless integration of the UI5 Converters into the SAP Fiori Launchpad is also given.
