Increasingly complex logistics chains lead to immense amounts of data and a steadily increasing flow of information between all parties involved. In combination with growing transparency requirements, the SAP® ERP modules SAP® LE-TRA and SAP® WM are often overwhelmed.
In order to be able to map all processes efficiently, additional functions have now become necessary in terms of speed, flexibility and transparency. The SAP® Supply Chain Execution Platform interlinks the operational logistics systems SAP® Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), SAP® Transportation Management (TM) and SAP® Event Management (EM) on a single system technology platform.
Depending on company size and volume, the solutions can be scaled and logistics processes can be made more flexible as well as more reliable, for example by differentiating between process- and layout-oriented warehouse management.
The SAP® SCE Platform offers real-time controllability of all processes. As a result, logisticians, plant managers and purchasers are well informed at all times. Overall, the use of the platform guarantees process reliability, and thus also adherence to delivery dates and customer satisfaction.
Delivery is synchronous, so implementation is possible in one instance. This also means that the individual processes of the three previously independent solutions can now be integrated more easily via the SCE Platform. This holistic approach forms the basis for avoiding process and system discontinuities. Data can be transferred via a direct connection from SAP® ERP; no additional interface is required.
By networking and integrating the three components, a seamless logistics chain is created. For example, more efficient wave planning of picking processes can be carried out in EWM if it also receives important information from TM and EM.
Storage and retrieval strategies can also be adjusted if it is known from the TM when which transport service provider will arrive at the point of view. In this way, optimal utilization of all resources can be achieved. The forklift call system, Handling Unit Management and the material flow system (MFS) are also fully integrated.
SAP EWM is SAP’s strategic warehouse management software and, compared to classic WM, offers extended functionalities with which even complex logistics processes can be mapped.read more
